Secret Smile Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are braces fitted to the inside of the teeth (the tongue or palate side) and are therefore the most invisible of all brace types. No one is aware you have braces during treatment.

How does treatment work?

Secret smiles brackets are custom made for your teeth and are attached to the back of your teeth. A wire is attached to these brackets which applies gentle force to gradually align the front eight teeth.

What does the procedure involve?

Impressions and photographs are taken and are sent to the Wired Orthodontics Laboratory in Devon where the brackets are custom made to fit your teeth. Your braces are then sent back to us and we bond each bracket individually to your teeth. We then attached the wire and review your progress every 4 weeks.

What are the benefits of Secret Smile braces?

  • Invisibility: Because the brackets and wires are on the back of your teeth they are invisible to other people. This is a fantastic benefit for people who are not willing to wear braces on the front of their teeth.
  • Treatment time: Treatment may take from 6 weeks  to 1 year depending on the severity of the issue.
  • Comfort: Secret Smile brackets are small and fine and most patients get used to them in  only a couple of days.

How much do Secret Smile braces cost?

Braces cost £2500 for one arch or £4000 for treatment of both arches at the same time. This fee includes all x-rays, models, braces and adjustments. We will also give you free retainers and free Optident whitening after treatment.

Are Secret Smile lingual braces suitable for everyone?

Secret Smile lingual braces are designed for patients who have mild or moderate orthodontic problems of the front eight teeth only. If you have a more complex prescription you should consider some of our other treatments. We will discuss this with you at your free orthodontic consultation with our dentist Allan Rennie.

Are the braces painful?

Secret Smile braces are designed to be as comfortable as possible. There may be slight discomfort for the first few days as you get used to them but after this period there is usually no discomfort at all.

Are there any side-effects?

Your speech may be mildly affected to begin with and the braces may feel a bit odd, but this always passes after a few days.
