Invisalign

Invisalign is a world renowned system that uses clear plastic aligners to gradually move teeth into a better cosmetic position.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign treatment can move teeth orthodontically without the patient wearing obvious bracket type braces fixed to teeth.

The aligners are custom-made for each patient and will be shaped according to the level of tooth movement desired. The aligners generate gentle pressure and the treatment system is renowned for being comfortable. A sequence of aligners is made, each being worn for 2 weeks for about 21 hours a day. The aligners are almost invisible when in the mouth and so most people won’t even realise you are having treatment until they see the results.

What does treatment involve?

Initially we start by taking impressions and photographs of your teeth. These are sent to the Invisalign Laboratory where they are used to map out the treatment and fabricate the aligners. Each aligner is slightly different in order to gradually align the teeth into a beautiful position.

The aligners should be worn for 21 hours per day and for two weeks at a time. After two weeks you move on to the next aligner and so on until treatment completion. Your Glasgow Invisalign dentist will arrange regular check-ups to monitor the progress of your treatment and to ensure that you are happy with the treatment.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

The most appealing aspect about Invisalign is the fact that the trays can’t be seen by others once they are fitted over the teeth. People can have the treatment and remain confident without having to feel self concious about metal braces.

Invisalign aligners are very comfortable because there are no metal parts, no adjustments and the aligners generate gentle pressure to move the teeth.

The aligners are removable and so hygiene is easier than with normal braces. They can also be removed for special occasions when you want to look your best.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Invisalign prices vary depending on how severe the problem is and as a result how many visits and trays will be required. Typically treatment can cost from £2000 upwards.

Is Invisalign suitable for everyone?

Invisalign can correct many orthodontic problems but may not be the best option in some cases. Your dentist will discuss this and other options at your free consultation.

Is treatment painful?

The aligners are custom made and with no metal components to cause ulceration to the lips and cheeks, are generally thought of as one of the most comfortable orthodontic options available.

How long does treatment take?

Your Skye Dental Group dentist will give you an estimated time for your treatment at your consultation appointment. Most treatments vary from 6 months to 3 years depending on the severity of the problem.

When was Invisalign introduced?

The Invisalign revolution began in 1997 and since then has helped hundreds of thousands of people across the world achieve the smile of their dreams.

Are there any side-effects?

When the trays are initially inserted the patient can be sound like they have a slight lisp. This goes away after a few days.

How long do I have to wear the aligners?

Each aligner should be worn for 21 hours a day for 2 weeks.
