Invisalign Teen
Invisalign Teen is a clear aligner system similar to Invisalign but with some modifications to suit the developing mouth.
How does Invisalign Teen work?
Invisalign Teen uses a sequence of clear plastic aligners which are fitted over the teeth and which apply gentle pressures to move the teeth into the desired position. Each aligner is worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next in the series. Each aligner should be worn for 2 weeks for a minimum of 21 hours per day.
Invisalign Teen aligners have additional features to help younger patients adhere to treatment. They are marked with a colour code to remind patients when to swap their aligner and they also come with spare aligners in case the patient loses or misplaces one.
The aligners are custom-made according to the individual patient’s treatment plan. Each aligner is slightly different to encourage the teeth to move.
Stages of treatment
Stage 1: A consultation will be held at The Southside Dental Practice. The dentist will check that you are a suitable candidate and will talk to you about the treatment process, how it works and how long the treatment will take. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
Stage 2: Impressions and photographs are taken of your mouth and are sent away to be used in the creation of your bespoke aligners.
Stage 3: The aligners are manufactured and returned to us for the treatment to begin.
Stage 4: Wear your aligners for at least 21 hours per day only remove them to eat, drink and clean your teeth. We will arrange regular check-ups to ensure a smooth treatment process.
What are the benefits of Invisalign Teen?
- Aesthetics: Many teenagers are self-conscious about their appearance and so the clear aligners offer a discreet solution.
- Flexibility: You can remove your aligners to eat, drink and brush your teeth, and also when you want to look your best for special occasions.
- Convenience: Invisalign Teen comes with spare aligners in case you lose one, and colour markers to remind you when to change to your next aligner.
How much does it cost?
The cost of treatment will vary according to the individual case. Your Skye Dental Group Invisalign Teen dentist will explain the costs to you during a consultation.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment time is dependent on the severity of the orthodontic problem being corrected. Relatively simple cases may be completed within 6-12 months but more complex cases will take longer.
Are the aligners comfortable?
The aligners are very comfortable in comparison to traditional braces because they use gentle forces and do not include any metal or bands.
Is the treatment suitable for all teenage patients?
Invisalign Teen is suitable for many patients but not all. Your Skye Dental Group dentist will advise you of your suitability at your free consultation appointment.
What is the difference between Invisalign and Invisalign Teen?
Invisalign Teen is similar to traditional Invisalign but has additional features to make it more suitable for teenage patients. These include spare aligners and colour indicators to remind the patient when to change their aligner.
